Nowhere Band News

news about Nowhere Band and about nowhere bands in general

Nowhere #32- jon’s 4th of july weekend (plus bonus materials)

So, this week Jon learns a harsh lesson that’s surprisingly common, I’m told. I’ve never actually played Guitar Hero or Rock Band (I’d like to, it just never works out), but I’ve had enough guitar-playing friends complain about getting waxed by children that it seems to be a universal right of passage.

Couple of other items:  my old band Red Hay, which provided a bunch of source material for Nowhere Band, got a nice writeup on Tried to Rock, a wonderfully kick-ass site about bands that don’t go anywhere (you can see why the site appeals to me). Go over and check the whole site out, it’s good, good stuff.

And, hopping away from comics and music, Rebecca and I have once again sat down and tried to decide whether another beloved movie stands the test of time. The latest contender? Say Anything.

nice write up and tune! good idea for a site…”for those who tried..” I guess, though, in my book, anyone who tried to rock, did, in fact, rock…if just for a moment, anyway.

Thanks! And I agree, the idea behind Tried to Rock is total genius. I love the Israeli rap group they have posted before Red Hay…

Long before you mentioned it here, I gave an alarmingly large amount of thought about whether Say Anything stands the test of time.

    My conclusion:
It needs to be remade. Ione Skye just totally sucks and nearly sinks the film like a big millstone tied around the neck of the otherwise bouyant script.

Man, I agree and disagree. Ione Skye is definitely the weakest link, and just kind of stands there as this awesome film unfolds around her. But I don’t think a remake would be the way to go… even if you improved on her, how likely would you be to recreate everything else that works so well?

Yeah, that occurred to me. It’s not likely, but I think it might be worth a shot if Cameron Crowe writes and directs. If that fails, ILM could just erase Ione Skye and put in Natalie Portman or somebody better.
