Nowhere #32- jon’s 4th of july weekend (plus bonus materials)
So, this week Jon learns a harsh lesson that’s surprisingly common, I’m told. I’ve never actually played Guitar Hero or Rock Band (I’d like to, it just never works out), but I’ve had enough guitar-playing friends complain about getting waxed by children that it seems to be a universal right of passage.
Couple of other items: my old band Red Hay, which provided a bunch of source material for Nowhere Band, got a nice writeup on Tried to Rock, a wonderfully kick-ass site about bands that don’t go anywhere (you can see why the site appeals to me). Go over and check the whole site out, it’s good, good stuff.
And, hopping away from comics and music, Rebecca and I have once again sat down and tried to decide whether another beloved movie stands the test of time. The latest contender? Say Anything.

w00t! A strip of mine got picked for the City Pages (Minneapolis’s alt-weekly) Comics Issue, focusing on the upcoming Republican National Convention. I did some writing for them back in my freelance days, but this is the first time I’ve convinced them– or anybody– to actually pay me for a comic. I’m pretty jazzed– hey, validation!
Also, the next Nowhere strip should be up in the next day or two, and a couple of other bloggy posts are forthcoming. Horn o’ plenty, dude.
1 commentNot Comics- Does Reservoir Dogs Hold Up?
Rebecca and I discuss this in great detail, and you’ll have to go over there to get the answer.
1 commentNot comics- Rebecca and I talk movies some more!
We’re about to leave for vacation, but we still found time to talk about Dead Poets Society; my side of the conversation somehow managed to include Led Zeppelin and Wolverine.

Once again, an illustration for a blog post of Rebecca’s; this is an awesome, awesome (or creepy, creepy, depending on your POV) at Mancini’s in St. Paul.
While I’m here, I might as well mention that Nowhere 27 (featuring Dan, who’s been absent for a while) is in the Photoshop stage now, and could be up tomorrow if things break right. Otherwise, Friday for sure.
No commentsThe Hole in the Wall
Friend of Nowhere Band John Ralston has part one of his series The Hole in the Wall up at the Top Shelf Comix site, and it is highly recommended. It’s a surreal story about a couple of cats who go exploring, gorgeously drawn in a style that reminds me a lot of 1930s newspaper strips. John’s a hell of an artist and a great guy, and he could use your clicks!
Awesome Boys Interview at isroxxor!
It’s true! The boys sit down to talk love, life, and music (well, just music, really) with the folks at isroxxor. It’s a must-read, especially to people who think Sting should have been assasinated in 1986.
Also, 26d is being inked, and will be up by the end of the week FOR SURE.
No commentsis roxxor
So, if you’re over here, you must have at least a passing interest in Twin Cities music; if you want to further that interest, you should go take a gander at the new music site is roxxor, which features interviews and music and reviews and general funosity.
That funosity may include some Nowhere/Derailleur/Awesome Boys-related stuff before too long, if you’re into that sort of thing…
No commentsInside the Practice Space
Last night, I took a camera with me to the Derailleur practice/recording session, and took a bunch of pictures. Even in the unlikely event that you’re not a Derailleur fan, it might be worth taking a gander to see a bunch of Nowhere Band source material…
